Join us for a very special evening with perennial favorite Johnny Nicholas performing alongside guitarist Scrappy Jud Newcomb. Johnny’s musical roots grow deep and wide, spanning the many musical traditions found across the country. Drawing from the wealth of musical influences found in areas such as Chicago, Louisiana and Texas, Johnny’s original music stirs together elements of folk, blues, western-swing, jazz, Cajun and country. Over his career, Johnny has worked with a diverse mix of artists and bands, including Grammy Award-winning Austin band Asleep at the Wheel, blues master Big Walter Horton and Cajun musician Link Davis. His music has been described as a “roots-based rock’n’roll electric aesthetic that hits all the right notes” as he “adds deep soul and a down home feeling to each and every song.”
Johnny is accompanied by Scrappy Jud Newcomb, arguably the best guitarist and accompanist in Austin today with a musical pedigree second to none. Described as a musician’s musician, Scrappy is much sought after, and over the years has recorded and toured with numerous musicians and bands including The Loose Diamonds, Jon Dee Graham, Stephen Bruton, Terry Allen, Walter Tragert, Todd Snider, Neal Casal, Natalia Zukerman, Bobby Whitlock and Coco Carmel, Bob Schneider, Dan Stuart (Green on Red) and many others. He has produced records for Salid Cleaves, Jeff Plankenhorn, Johnny Goudie, Beaver Nelson, Jenny Reynolds, Michael Hall, Walter Tragert and Al Staehely among others. And he has released four of his own recordings.
