Odeon Preservation Association
The Odeon Preservation Association (OPA) is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt non-profit organization. The association was formed in 1994 by local residents, led by Spider Johnson, to purchase the Odeon Theater, which was going to be permanently closed. In addition to refurbishing the theater building, OPA is committed to providing wholesome entertainment for our youth, as well as bringing enriching cultural experiences – including music, dance and theater – for people of all ages in Mason and the surrounding communities.

OUR RENOVATION JOURNEY
In 1995, the building facade and marquee were repaired, repainted and the neon lighting was restored to its authentic late 1940s appearance. Infrastructure was updated to meet current codes. Heating and air conditioning systems were replaced. Sound and projection systems were upgraded.
In 2010, the Odeon Theater almost closed it doors forever when the movie industry switched to a digital-based distribution system. This meant no more film! Faced with a $125,000 cost to convert our film system to digital, our community and patrons stepped up once again. The funds were quickly raised and the doors stayed open.
In 2011, we began the final push to complete our vision for the Odeon. Modern stage lighting and curtains were installed. Dressing rooms and back stage restrooms were built.
By the end of 2018, the Odeon’s exterior was repainted (historically correct) and the lobby was completely renovated.
In the summer of 2019, the OPA celebrated its Silver Anniversary. To mark this exciting milestone, we completed the final major elements of our original restoration plan — new, modern, comfortable theater seating and updated sound system!
We are proud of the restorations, updates and repairs that have preserved the Odeon as a valued gathering place and entertainment hub for the community, and created a dynamic performing arts center. This achievement is due entirely to the commitment, focus and hard work of friends of the Odeon in Mason, all over Texas, the U.S and around the world. Thank you for your continuing support.
